It’s already the second week of January (eek!). Time to grab that new calendar and fill it up with some tango events. Here’s my pick of the milongas, workshops and classes that have popped up on my radar for January and February.
Milongas & special events
TANGO MOVEMENT WINTER BALL
Saturday 21st January, 7.30pm to 22nd January 1am
Old Finsbury Town Hall, London
Kim and David’s famous annual ball; tickets always sell out! A lavish evening of entertainment and dancing, with proceeds to support a charity in Argentina. Buy tickets on their site. Find the event on Facebook here.

St Phillip’s Church Kensington, London
DJ Tony Walker’s regular afternoon milonga with a lovely relaxed vibe. No need to book in advance. Find the event on Facebook here and here.
Sunday 29th January, 1pm-9pm
Worthing, West Sussex
John and Karen of JagJive are launching a special edition of their popular Satin tea dance with tango guests Diana Cruz and Nick Jones. There will be 2.5 hours of workshops, a class before the milonga and an evening of dancing on a big sprung floor. Food and drink provided and free parking. LONDON TANGO FIESTA ‘AFTERMOON’ EDITION
Sunday 29th January, 3.30pm-8pm
Diego Calarca’s semi-regular tea dance in a lovely location, The London Cabaret Club. DJ Mary Meriu Wu. Performance from Diego with Paula Duarte. Tickets online here and all the details on Facebook.
Workshops & bootcamps
ALEJANDRA AT RGTA
Thursday 19th January, 7.30-9.30pm & Friday 20th January, 8pm-10pm
Marylebone and Great Russell Street, London

JULIA & CLAUDIO AT LPTA
Workshop Saturday 28th January, 2pm-5.30pm
Classes at the popular Leandro Palou Tango Academy kicked off this week with a full programme for all levels. The academy is based in London but there will be classes in Brighton next week. On the 28th they are hosting two workshops with Claudio Gonzalez & Julia Hiriart Urruty. Visit the website for details and find the academy group on Facebook.
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February
Ralli Hall, Brighton
The hugely popular bootcamp that comes around a few times a year. Followed by the Valentine’s Weekend workshops and milongas. Booking now open here for the bootcamp and filling up fast.

HYPERION CONCERT AT TANGUITO VALENTINE’S BALL
Sunday 19th February, 2pm-9pm
A special edition of Nati and Bruno’s Los Angelitos milonga with guest musicians Hyperion. Two classes and milonga and a wonderful chance to dance to live music. Advanced booking recommended. Details and tickets here.

Marino Institute of Education, Dublin
A great value festival in a wonderful city, packed with 6 workshops for intermediate to advanced dancers and 3 friendly milongas. Details and booking here.
TANGO IN A DAY

David and Ann of Learning Tango have added a February date for their popular beginners day after the January event sold out. Booking essential. Find all the details here. They’re also doing a nuevo workshop on Sunday 5th February.
Great regular class and friendly practica at a lovely venue. No need to book. Get all the details on their website or find the group on Facebook. Look out for their monthly milongas – lovely atmosphere and a friendly crowd.
NATI & BRUNO AT TANGUITO
Wednesdays 7pm-11pm and every other Sunday 2pm-8pm
Classes for beginners, improvers and intermediates with a practica on Wednesdays and a charming milonga on alternate Sundays. Private classes also available – I highly recommend them. Find all the details here.
FRANCES AT TANGO INSTINCT
Mile End, London
The popular courses with Frances begin on Thursday in Bow Road. Two classes available, places always fill up. The course repeats in a couple of months if you miss out this time. Book your place here.
