Tango wear: 7 favourites

Amys_Etsypicks
In need of a wardrobe refresh before the Spring festivals start? Here’s a timely roundup of my favourite tango shops.

CoCo’s Dancewear

I’ve been dancing in Coco’s creations for a little while and am a big fan of the fabrics and quality. She adds new designs very regularly and prices are so reasonable you don’t have to wait for a sale if you’re on a budget. She uses US sizes – if in doubt go up in size as the skirts run a little small. I recommend the circle skirts with slightly dipped hem – the prints are one of a kind and the fabrics feel simply lovely to dance in. Find her on Etsy at CoCos Dancewear

MarcellaModa

This is not a tango brand but still worth a serious look. They make a whole wardrobe of designs with tops in particular that are just perfect for tango. There are sleeveless, short and long sleeve styles with asymmetric shaping, cutouts, single-shoulder wraps, mesh panels and other clever details. They also make cropped bralettes (perfect under a wrap dress when you need just a tad of coverage), leggings and tunics. Most everything comes in black and white along with a nice palette of neutrals. Find them on Etsy at Marcella Moda

Bahar’s Designs

New to the tango wear scene and one to watch, Bahar creates sleek tango clothes in gorgeous fabrics without the hefty price tag. She also makes milonga bags that are so well designed you’ll wonder how you managed without one. Bahar’s website is in the works but you can reach her by email (bahar 223 at gmail .com) and look out for her at milongas in London.

Selalma

Good quality dresses from Germany in dense, drapey jersey. Most have low backs and high fronts with the perfect just-below-knee skirt length. Lia also makes amazing show dresses. Find her on Etsy at Selalma

Libertas Atelier

For a splurge purchase, Libertas is hard to beat. You’ll find dresses, skirts and tops in luxurious fabrics. Libusha’s designs suit taller figures particularly well. She regularly tours milongas and you can buy through Etsy at Libertas Atelier

Diva Dames

Essential shrugs and boleros in a rainbow of colours and bargain prices. They have versions in soft stretchy viscose, lace and satin. Black and white sell the fastest but they re-stock fairly regularly. Find them on eBay at Diva Dames

Mirada Tenue de Tango

This French shop stocks a gorgeous collection of satins, velvets and metallics in vibrant colours. Head here if you need a real showstopper. Find Mirada’s designs on Etsy at Mirada Tenue de Tango
